Birth is a competently designed physiologic function of a competently designed woman's body. It is not inherently dangerous. It is not broken and does not need fixing. The primary task of a woman in labor is to surrender.

The Lord gives delivery, as it says in Isaiah 66:9

"Do I bring to the moment of birth

and not give delivery?” says the LORD.

“Do I close up the womb

when I bring to delivery?” says your God."

Fear is the enemy of faith, and fear is the enemy of birth. Because fear counteracts oxytocin. Labor is driven by oxytocin. The atmosphere of fear will release adrenaline, which competes for the binding sites for oxytocin, thus inhibiting labor. There is a physiology to fear.

Christians, we have no need to fear. Fear is not our inheritance, faith is.

"There is no fear in love, because perfect love drives out fear." 1 John 4:18

"I will not fear for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4

"Never will I leave you, never will my forsake you. So we say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.'" Hebrews 13:5-6

Christian, you are not surrendering to some blind force but to Almighty God who loves you and will never forsake you! And He will deliver you.
